Weight Loss

What is Weight Loss Treatment?
Many adults find that weight creeps up over the years and then refuses to shift, however carefully they eat or how often they exercise. It can show around the waist, hips and thighs, and it can affect energy, comfort, movement and confidence.
When excess weight starts to affect your health, ordinary diet and exercise are not always enough on their own. Doctor-led medical treatment can offer extra support, alongside changes to how you eat and move.

Why Weight Can Be Hard to Lose
Body weight is not simply a matter of discipline. The body regulates it through hormones, the brain and daily habits, and these can work against a person who is trying to lose weight. Weight can be hard to lose for a range of reasons, including:
- Appetite hormones: Hormones released by the gut and fat tissue tell the brain when to eat and when to stop. After dieting, hunger signals can rise and fullness signals can fade, which makes eating less feel like a constant struggle.
- A slower metabolism: As weight comes down, the body often burns energy more slowly, so the same meals stop producing the same results.
- Sleep and stress: Too little sleep and long-term stress can raise hunger and cravings, and can nudge the body towards storing fat.
- Medical conditions and medicines: Thyroid problems and hormonal changes are among the health issues that may affect weight. Some prescription medicines can too.
- Genetics: Family history can influence appetite, where fat is stored and how easily weight is gained.
- Diet and activity: Eating patterns and everyday movement still matter, especially as busy schedules and desk-based work reduce how much we move.
Treatments for Weight Loss at ARTÉ
ARTÉ offers GLP-1 medicines, which are prescription treatments. They are not a shortcut, and they are not right for everyone. Whether one suits you is decided by Dr. Michelle at an in-person consultation, after a review of your health history, current medicines and goals.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonists
Glucagon-like Peptide-1, or GLP-1, is a hormone the gut releases after a meal, signalling fullness. GLP-1 receptor agonists mimic this effect, which can quieten hunger, help you feel satisfied sooner and slow how quickly food leaves the stomach. They are administered either via self-injection using an injector pen or with oral tablets and are meant to sit beside healthier eating and regular activity, never in place of them. This page explains how the medicines work, who they may suit and what to expect.
Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a once-weekly prescription injection that works on the GLP-1 pathway. It can lower appetite and increase fullness, and is meant to sit within a wider weight management plan that includes eating less and moving more. It is prescribed within a supervised, long-term plan, with regular reviews so your doctor can check how you are responding and adjust as needed.
Tirzepatide
Where some other medicines act on GLP-1 alone, Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection that acts on two gut hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. It can reduce appetite and make you feel full sooner. It is prescribed within a supervised, long-term plan, with regular reviews so your doctor can check how you are responding and adjust as needed.
Possible side effects: Some people have nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation or stomach discomfort, especially early on, and these usually ease as the body adjusts. You may notice mild redness or bruising where you inject. Rarer risks are explained before you start. A consultation is needed first, and results vary from person to person.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who might weight loss injections suit?
They may suit adults whose health is being affected by their weight, and who have not kept it off with diet and exercise alone. Clinics often look at a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a related condition. They are not used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and some medical histories rule them out. Dr. Michelle confirms suitability at consultation.
How are the injections given?
After your consultation and a check on suitability, you are taught to inject yourself at home using a pen device, into the fat just under the skin of the tummy, thigh or upper arm. The starting dose is low and rises gradually, which helps limit side effects. You return for reviews so your doctor can track progress.
What are the side effects?
The most common are stomach upsets such as nausea, diarrhoea or constipation, along with mild tiredness or headache, and they tend to settle as your body adjusts. Faster weight loss can sometimes make the face look more hollow. Let your doctor know if any symptom worries you.
What happens if I stop?
Weight can return once treatment ends, so these medicines are usually thought of as part of a longer plan. Your doctor talks through what to expect and how to keep the routines you have built, so any change is planned rather than sudden.
Do I still need to change how I eat and move?
Yes. The medicines are meant to back up your own efforts, not replace them. Smaller portions, steady movement and good sleep help the treatment work and make results easier to keep.
Why Choose ARTÉ by Dr. M for Weight Loss?
Doctor-Led Care
Dr. Michelle Ng carries out every consultation herself, never passing it on to another practitioner. Having practised aesthetic medicine for over a decade, she treats weight loss as a medical decision, not a quick fix.
Assessment Comes First
A prescription medicine is only offered once your health history, current medicines and goals have been reviewed in person. Whether it suits you, and which option, is decided at your consultation. Some people will be advised that it is not the right choice.
Ongoing Follow-Up
Treatment is not a single visit. Regular reviews let Dr. Michelle check how you are responding, manage side effects and adjust your plan, so support continues well beyond the first appointment.
Natural-Looking Results
The aim is steady, sensible progress that suits your frame, not rapid change. Because quicker weight loss can make the face look more hollow, Dr. Michelle looks at how you look as well as how you feel, and paces the plan accordingly.
Safety-First Approach
Every plan begins with a thorough consultation, with clear aftercare notes to take home.
