Dehydrated

What is Dehydrated Skin?

Dehydrated skin is skin that lacks water. That is different from dry skin, which lacks oil and is a skin type. Dehydration is a temporary condition, and it can affect any skin type, including oily and acne-prone skin.

It often shows as tightness after cleansing, a dull or tired tone, fine lines that look more obvious, and makeup that sits unevenly. Some people also notice extra shine, as the skin makes more oil to compensate. Treatment aims to bring water back and help the skin hold on to it, which can leave it feeling more comfortable and looking fresher.

Dehydrated

What Causes Dehydrated

Skin holds water through its outer barrier and through molecules such as hyaluronic acid. Anything that weakens the barrier or lowers those molecules can leave skin short of water. Dehydrated skin can come from a range of factors, including:

  • Air-conditioning and climate: Constant air-conditioning, along with weather and seasonal changes, can draw moisture out of the skin.
  • Ageing: Hyaluronic acid, which binds water in the skin, falls with age, and skin renews itself more slowly.
  • A weakened barrier: Over-exfoliating or using harsh, alcohol-based products can disrupt the skin's protective layer, so water escapes more easily.
  • Sun exposure: UV light damages collagen and stresses the skin, which can leave it looking dull and short of moisture.
  • Diet and habits: Alcohol, caffeine, poor sleep and a diet low in fresh produce can add to water loss.
  • Pollution: Environmental pollutants can damage skin cells and dull the complexion.

Revive HA Skinbooster

Revive HA Skinbooster pairs hyaluronic acid with glycerol, a humectant that helps skin hold on to moisture. It is placed through tiny, superficial injections across the face. Hydration often shows within a week or two, and softness and glow build after that. It also suits anyone preparing for a trip to a colder climate.

5 Point Bio Remodelling HA Skinbooster

Often called an injectable moisturiser, this skinbooster places high-purity hyaluronic acid at five injection points either side of the face so it spreads beneath the skin. It hydrates from within without adding volume or changing your shape. An extra session may be advised for skin that is more dehydrated or mature.

Dr. M Formula

A multi-nutrient cocktail, Dr. M Formula pairs hyaluronic acid with antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. It suits skin that looks tired or stressed and needs more than hydration alone. Skin can feel softer, with less tightness, and tone often looks brighter over a few weeks. Periodic top-ups help keep the effect going.

Amino Acid Replacement Treatment Skinbooster

This skinbooster combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids, the raw materials skin uses to make collagen. Separate formulations cover the face, the fragile skin near the eyes, and the neck, décolletage and hands, so it suits dryness and thinness beyond the cheeks. Hydration often shows first, with firmness building over the following weeks.

Salmon PN Skinbooster

Salmon PN Skinbooster uses polynucleotides derived from salmon to support the skin's own repair. The skin barrier is what keeps water in, so its barrier-strengthening effect matters here, and it can also calm redness and sensitivity. It suits skin that feels thin, tired or reactive, with early gains in hydration and texture often seen within a couple of weeks.

Trout PN Skinbooster

Highly purified polynucleotides from trout are used here to repair the skin and support collagen. It suits skin that is dull, dry or damaged, including skin that is acne-prone or sensitive, which can be a good fit when oily skin turns out to be dehydrated. Calmer skin and a less dull tone can build gradually across the course.

ECM Skinbooster

ECM Skinbooster is made from human skin matrix and places collagen and elastin components straight into the skin, aiming for a denser structure and a stronger barrier. Texture and hydration can improve after the first session, with smoother, firmer skin becoming clearer over the course. It suits rough texture, uneven tone or a sensitive, weakened barrier.

Lip Fillers

Dehydration can show on the lips too, as dryness and a rough texture. Where moisture matters more than size, ultra-soft hyaluronic acid skinboosters can be placed in the lips to improve moisture, texture and softness without changing their size or shape. Dr. Michelle can include this in a whole-face hydration plan.

HydraFacial Syndeo

This non-injectable option is a multi-step facial that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums chosen at a skin analysis, with hydration one of the goals. Skin often looks dewy and smoother straight afterwards, with minimal downtime. It suits dry or dull skin, and oily or congested skin too, which fits skin that is dehydrated but not dry.

SkinCeuticals Facial

This medi-facial comes in three versions, and the one for dry, sensitive or depleted skin is built around hydration. It aims for a dewy complexion, a stronger skin barrier and softer-looking lines, in a longer, more indulgent session with no injections. The other two versions focus on brightness and firmness, so Dr. Michelle matches the facial to your skin.

Possible side effects: Injectable skinboosters can cause small bumps, mild redness, swelling or bruising at the injection points, which usually settles. Facials usually have minimal downtime. A consultation is needed first, and results vary from person to person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can oily or acne-prone skin have these treatments?

In many cases, yes. Dehydration is about water, not oil, so oily skin can lack moisture too. Hydrating boosters bring water-binding hydration rather than oil, and Dr. Michelle will choose the option that suits your skin type and any breakouts.

Are skinbooster injections painful?

Numbing cream is applied first. Most people describe quick stinging at the injection points, and a session is usually short. Facials involve no needles at all.

Will a skinbooster change how my face looks?

It is not designed to. Skinboosters improve skin quality, hydration and texture rather than adding volume or reshaping, so the result is usually a fresher, more even-looking version of your own skin.

How long do results last?

It depends on the treatment, your skin and your lifestyle. Skinboosters are usually given as a short course and then topped up periodically, while facials are often repeated at regular intervals. Dr. Michelle will outline a schedule for you.

Do I need more than one type of treatment?

A plan can pair the two. A facial can refresh the surface while a skinbooster hydrates more deeply, and Dr. Michelle will advise what your skin needs and in what order.

What should I do at home alongside treatment?

Gentle skincare, daily sunscreen and drinking enough water help keep the gains. Hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid or glycerin can help, while harsh or alcohol-based products can strip the skin. Follow the aftercare notes given after your treatment.

Why Choose ARTÉ by Dr. M for Dehydrated?

Doctor-Led Care

Your skin is assessed and treated by Dr. Michelle Ng in person, never handed to another practitioner. She has practised aesthetic medicine for over a decade. She begins by working out whether your skin is short of water, oil or both.

A Plan for Your Skin Type and Hydration Goals

Oily, dry and combination skin can all be dehydrated, and each responds differently. Your skin type and what you want from hydration set the plan: a fresh glow, lasting comfort or deeper support for a weakened barrier. Dr. Michelle may pair a facial with an injectable booster.

Natural-Looking Results

Well-hydrated skin should look like yours, only fresher. Skinboosters work on skin quality rather than volume, so your features stay as they are and the finish is smoother.

Safety-First Approach

A consultation comes first, followed by clear aftercare notes and a follow-up review.
