Undereye

What are Under-Eye Lines?

Undereye lines are the fine creases and crinkled texture that form on the lower lid and towards the outer corner of the eye. Some show only when you smile or squint. Others stay visible at rest, and in some people the skin itself looks thin and finely creased.

They are often one of the first lines people notice, because the skin here is among the thinnest on the face. They can make the eyes look tired even when you feel well, and can appear earlier than many expect.

What Causes Undereye

Under-eye lines rarely come from one source. Movement creases the skin, and thin, less supported skin makes those creases easier to keep. Under-eye lines can come from a range of factors, including:

  • Thin skin: The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate than elsewhere on the face, so it tends to crease and dry out sooner. Some people are simply born with thinner skin here.
  • Collagen and elastin loss: Production slows from the late twenties. The skin gradually loses thickness and support, and fine lines follow.
  • Repeated expressions: Smiling, squinting and blinking fold this skin many times a day. Over the years, those creases can settle in and stay visible at rest.
  • Sun exposure: UV light, strong in Singapore, breaks down the collagen already there and can slow the making of new collagen.
  • Dehydration: Dry skin wrinkles more readily, and the under-eye area is prone to it.
  • Lost volume and lifestyle: As the fat and bone around the eye thin with age, the contours flatten and loose skin creases more easily. Smoking, poor sleep or an inflammatory diet can accelerate this process.

Treatments for Undereye at ARTÉ

Which option fits comes down to the type of line, the thickness of your skin and any fullness lost beneath it. Your plan is set at a first consultation with Dr. Michelle.

Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum Toxin is used to treat lines that radiate from the corner of your eyes when you smile or squint. By relaxing the muscle, these lines soften and you may find your eyes more “open” as well. A conservative dose aims to keep your expressions natural and the effect wears off gradually, so treatments can be repeated every 4 months.

Skinbooster

Skinboosters are tiny injections that place hydrating gel into the skin itself, improving its quality rather than adding volume. The under-eye is one of the areas ARTÉ uses them, where fine crow's-feet lines can look softer as the skin holds more moisture. They suit dry, dull or crepey skin more than deep creases, and tend to be planned across a handful of visits.

Collagen Undereye Filler

Made from purified collagen and designed for the thin skin beneath the eye, this injectable offers a little structure at once and then nudges your own skin to make more collagen. For lines, the hope is smoother, sturdier skin with fewer creases. It also suits shadowing and hollowing beneath the eye, so it can help where thin skin and lost fullness occur together.

HA Filler

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule the skin already contains. As a filler gel, it restores structure, support and hydration, and ARTÉ's page lists softer under-eye folds among its results. Soft formulations suit fine skin like this, and the change shows straight away. It fits creases that come with lost fullness, and is not aimed at the fine surface crinkling of thin skin.

Sofwave

This ultrasound device sends parallel beams into the skin's middle depth, heating tiny zones while a cooled tip keeps the surface comfortable. The heat encourages new collagen and elastin over the coming weeks. Sofwave works well for the upper face where the skin is thinner and superficial treatment produces noticeable improvement.

Possible side effects: Injections can bring mild swelling, redness or bruising, and ultrasound treatments a short-lived flush or warmth. Such effects tend to fade on their own. You will need a consultation first, and results vary from person to person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these treatments erase my under-eye lines?

Not always. Fine lines and crepey texture can often look softer, while deeper creases may stay visible. The aim is to improve how the area looks, not to make it look untouched. Dr. Michelle explains what is realistic for your skin before you decide.

How do I know whether I need toxin, filler or a skin treatment?

It depends on how the line behaves. A crease that shows mainly when you smile or squint may respond to toxin. A line sitting over lost fullness may need filler. Fine crinkling in thin skin often suits a skinbooster or ultrasound. Dr. Michelle may watch the area move and check the skin's thickness before advising.

Are these treatments comfortable around the eyes?

Numbing cream goes on before injections and ultrasound sessions. Injections are often described as light pressure with an occasional prick, and ultrasound as brief bursts of warmth. Visits are short, and daily routines can usually resume soon after.

What kind of timeline should I expect?

Each works on its own clock. Toxin settles in over the following weeks and eases off after several months. Skinboosters often bring a fresher look early, with texture improving across the course. Ultrasound builds gradually across a few months. Fillers show a change straight away.

Can treatments be combined?

Yes, and it is common. A plan might pair toxin for movement lines with a skinbooster for skin quality, or add ultrasound for thin, crepey skin. Order and spacing are set by Dr. Michelle so each step suits the area.

Can eye creams alone smooth these lines?

Good sun protection and hydration help look after the skin. Creams can improve moisture and surface smoothness, but they do not stimulate collagen in the way in-clinic treatments aim to. Many people use both.

Why Choose ARTÉ by Dr. M for Undereye?

Doctor-Led Care

Dr. Michelle Ng examines and treats your under-eye area herself, and nothing is handed to a colleague. She has practised aesthetic medicine for over a decade, which counts where the skin is this thin.

A Plan for Lines, Thin Skin and Lost Fullness

The eye area is delicate, and lines and lost volume can look alike from the front. A squint crease, thin crepey skin and a slight hollow that deepens a line each call for something different, and plenty of people combine them. Dr. Michelle studies how the area moves, how thick the skin is and how much fullness remains, then builds the plan from that. She will also say plainly when a line is likely to soften only a little.

Natural-Looking Results

We want eyes that look rested and still move like yours, so smiling and squinting stay natural. Thin skin shows over-treatment quickly, so care here goes step by step. Results cannot be promised.
