Jaw Slimming

What is Jaw Slimming?

A wide or square lower face is one of the most common reasons people ask about jaw slimming. The jaw can look broad from the front, with corners that feel heavy or angular, and some people find it makes the whole face look harder than they would like. It tends to be more noticeable in photos and when you clench or smile.

The width can come from muscle, bone or fat, and which one it is decides what will help. When the muscle is the main reason, treatment can soften the angles and slim the lower face gradually.

What Causes a Wide or Square Jaw

The shape of the lower face comes from three layers working together: the bone underneath, the chewing muscle over it and the fat and skin on top. Jaw Slimming concerns can come from a range of factors, including:

  • Enlarged masseter muscles: The masseter is the thick chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. Like any muscle that works hard, it can bulk up and push the lower face outwards.
  • Teeth grinding and clenching: Bruxism, often unnoticed and often at night, keeps the masseter working. Stress-related clenching can do the same, and may bring jaw tightness or headaches.
  • Chewing habits: Regular gum chewing and a lot of tough, chewy food can add to muscle size over time.
  • Genetics: Strong jaw muscles or a broad jaw frame can run in families.
  • Jaw bone structure: A prominent jaw angle is part of the bone itself. Muscle treatment does not change it.
  • Fat and skin laxity: Fullness along the lower face and jowls can add width that has nothing to do with the muscle.

Treatments for Jaw Slimming at ARTÉ

The right plan depends on whether muscle, bone or fat is behind your jaw shape. It starts with a consultation with Dr. Michelle.

Jaw Botulinum Toxin Slimming

This treatment places a small amount of toxin into the masseter muscles. The muscle relaxes and, as it is used less, it can shrink gradually, leaving a softer, more tapered lower face. It suits a square or broad jaw that comes from muscle bulk, and it may also ease tightness for people who clench or grind. Results are temporary, so repeat sessions are usually needed to keep the shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if it is muscle, bone or fat?

Dr. Michelle checks this at your consultation, by looking at your face, feeling the muscle as you clench and discussing your history. Toxin can only slim muscle, so she will tell you if bone or fat is the bigger part of the picture.

Will my face look different when I chew or smile?

The aim is a subtle change to the width of the lower face, not to your expression. Your smile stays yours. Some people notice chewing very tough food feels a little weaker at first, and this usually eases.

How soon will I see a difference?

Muscle changes gradually, so slimming tends to show over several weeks rather than straight away. Many people notice it becomes clearer over the following months.

Do the results last?

They are temporary. As the toxin wears off, the muscle can slowly regain activity, so repeat treatment is usually needed to maintain the shape. Some people find results last longer with regular sessions.

Can it help with grinding and jaw pain?

Relaxing the masseter can ease clenching, grinding and jaw tightness for some people. If you have regular jaw pain, tell Dr. Michelle at your consultation so it can be reviewed properly.

Is it painful, and who should not have it?

Most people describe a brief pinch, and numbing cream or ice is used for comfort. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with certain nerve or muscle conditions. Dr. Michelle will review your medical history first.

Why Choose ARTÉ by Dr. M for Jaw Slimming?

Doctor-Led Care

Dr. Michelle Ng carries out every consultation and every injection herself, so nothing about your jaw is delegated or rushed. Having practised aesthetic medicine for over a decade, she knows the anatomy of the lower face closely.

A Plan for Muscle, Bone or Fat

A wide jaw is not always a muscle problem, and treating the wrong layer will not help. Dr. Michelle first works out how much of your jaw shape comes from muscle, bone or fat, then tells you honestly whether toxin suits you or whether another approach would.

Natural-Looking Results

Dosing is conservative and built up gradually, so the jawline slims in step with the muscle. The goal is a softer, more balanced lower face that looks like yours, not a sudden change.

Safety-First Approach

Your consultation covers your medical history, jaw comfort and clear aftercare before any treatment.
