Neck Laxity

What is Neck Laxity?
Neck laxity is the loosening of the skin and soft tissue along the front and sides of the neck. It can show as skin that hangs or looks crepey, a blurred line between the jaw and the neck, or vertical cords that stand out when you talk or tense the neck. It is sometimes called turkey neck.
The neck often shows age before the face does, because it gets less attention than the face. Treatment can help firm loose skin, soften bands and bring back a cleaner line from jaw to neck.

What Causes Neck Laxity
Neck laxity usually has two parts working together: skin that has lost its support, and a neck muscle that has changed with age. Which one leads in your neck decides what will help most. Neck Laxity can come from a range of factors, including:
- Thin, delicate skin: Neck skin is thinner than facial skin and has less fat beneath it, so it loses support sooner.
- Collagen and elastin loss: These fibres decline with age, and skin gradually loosens and looks crepey.
- Changes in the platysma muscle: This thin sheet of muscle under the skin can weaken and separate, forming vertical bands and pulling the jawline downward.
- Sun exposure: The neck is often left unprotected, and years of UV light wear down its collagen and elastin.
- Tech neck: Long hours looking down at phones and screens can add to skin creasing and sagging over time.
- Genetics and weight changes: Family history affects how early laxity appears, and swings in weight can stretch the skin over time.
Treatments for Neck Laxity at ARTÉ
What helps most depends on whether loose skin, muscle bands or both are behind your neck. Dr. Michelle sorts that out first, at a consultation.
Ultherapy PRIME
Ultherapy PRIME is a lifting ultrasound treatment. We are able to precisely identify your tissue layers on screen while focused energy is placed at chosen depths, reaching as deep as the deeper layer surgeons work on in a facelift. Collagen then renews gradually. On the neck, the aim is firmer, tighter skin. It suits mild to moderate laxity and needs little recovery.
Sofwave
Sofwave sends parallel ultrasound beams into the middle layer of the skin while a cooling surface protects the top, so the skin rebuilds its own collagen and elastin. On the neck and under the chin, it can give a subtle lift and firmer, smoother skin. Many people return to their day straight after, and results usually build gradually.
XERF
XERF warms the skin with two radiofrequency frequencies, one working in the dermis and one reaching deeper, with a cooling tip for comfort. The heat makes existing collagen contract and prompts new collagen over the months that follow. It suits neck skin that has begun to loosen, from mild to moderate, with minimal downtime.
InMode Forma
InMode Forma warms the skin with bipolar radiofrequency, and built-in sensors keep track of the temperature as it works. The heat encourages collagen and elastin. Across a course of sessions, the skin of the neck and under the chin can feel firmer, with a sharper neckline. The warmth is often compared to a massage.
Morpheus8
Morpheus8 pairs fine microneedles with radiofrequency to reshape collagen well below the surface. It is designed to lift and tighten the jawline and neck, and it suits early to moderate ageing when skincare alone has stopped making a difference. Some pinkness or swelling is common afterwards.
CaHa Biostimulator
Calcium hydroxylapatite is used here in a hyper-diluted form, spread thinly through the neck skin, to improve its quality. It prompts new collagen and elastin, which can leave crepey, sagging skin looking firmer and smoother, with gradual change as collagen builds.
Botulinum Toxin
For neck bands, botulinum toxin is placed in the platysma, the muscle behind the vertical cords. It relaxes the downward pull on the neck and lower face, which can soften the bands and give a crisper jawline. It works on the muscle, so loose skin often needs a tightening treatment alongside it.
Dermalift
Dermalift uses tiny, well-diluted amounts of botulinum toxin placed shallowly in the skin along the lower face, jawline and neck. It aims for a light, natural lift and skin that feels firmer. It suits the first signs of looseness, and anyone who would rather see quiet, gradual change. Recovery is quick.
Possible side effects: Injections can leave redness, swelling or bruising, and energy treatments can leave warmth or tenderness. These usually settle. A consultation is needed first, and results vary between people.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can neck laxity be treated without surgery?
Often, yes, for mild to moderate laxity. When sagging is more pronounced, non-surgical results tend to be more modest. Dr. Michelle will give you an honest view of what to expect, and whether another route would suit you better.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Many plans combine two approaches, such as an energy device for the skin and a muscle-relaxing treatment for bands. Some treatments suit a single session, while others build over a course. Your plan is set at your consultation.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is used for injections, and many people find them a series of quick pinpricks. Energy devices usually feel like waves of warmth or a brief tingle, softened by built-in cooling. Comfort options are covered before you start.
When will I see results, and how long do they last?
Injections can show change within a couple of weeks. Energy treatments usually build over several months as new collagen forms. Skin keeps ageing, so many people return for maintenance sessions from time to time.
Will I need time off afterwards?
Most of these options ask for very little. Any redness or mild swelling usually eases quickly, though microneedling may leave tiny pinpoint marks a little longer.
Why Choose ARTÉ by Dr. M for Neck Laxity?
Doctor-Led Care
Dr. Michelle Ng sees you herself at every step, from the first consultation to each treatment, and does not hand any of it to another practitioner. Having practised aesthetic medicine for over a decade, she understands how the neck ages in layers, from skin to muscle.
A Plan for Skin, Bands and Jawline
Loose skin and muscle bands need different answers, so Dr. Michelle assesses both before recommending anything. She also looks at your jawline and neck as one unit, because a change in one shapes how the other looks. Your plan may combine skin-tightening and band-softening treatments.
Natural-Looking Results
We want a neck that looks firmer and better defined while still looking like yours. Dosing and settings stay conservative and in proportion to your face.
Safety-First Approach
The neck is a delicate area, so nothing starts before a proper assessment, and you leave with clear aftercare notes.
