The Year-End Skin Lifting Timeline: When to Book Ultherapy Prime, Sofwave, or XERF Before the Festive Season in Singapore

Every November, patients come into ARTÉ by Dr. M a week or two before a wedding, company dinner, or Christmas party asking for a non-surgical lift.

Fillers can add volume on the same day, but ultrasound and radiofrequency treatments run on a slower biological clock. Ultherapy Prime, Sofwave, and XERF work by getting your skin to build its own collagen. Because new collagen takes weeks to form and tighten, the date you book determines whether you see a sharper jawline in December or only in the new year.

Why collagen cannot be rushed

Ultrasound and radiofrequency devices heat specific layers beneath the skin to between 60°C and 70°C. That heat triggers a natural repair response in three stages:

  • Days 1 to 7: Existing collagen fibers contract slightly from the heat. Your skin may feel a little firmer right after your session, though this early tightness is only a small fraction of the final result.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: Fibroblast cells move into the treated zones and start producing fresh collagen and elastin. Changes are underway beneath the surface, even if you cannot see a major difference in the mirror yet.
  • Weeks 4 to 12: The new collagen matures into stronger Type I fibers. As these fibers link up and tighten, they lift the surrounding tissue, firming the lower face and smoothing the skin surface.

To see a noticeable lift in your jawline and cheeks by Christmas or New Year's Eve, you need to give your skin at least four to eight weeks to reach that third stage.

How Ultherapy Prime, XERF, and Sofwave differ

Each of these three machines treats a different depth of tissue, which is why Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred choose between them based on where your face is losing support.

Ultherapy Prime (1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm)

Ultherapy Prime reaches down to 4.5mm to treat the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System), the fibrous muscle layer surgeons lift during a surgical facelift, alongside the dermis at 3.0mm and 1.5mm.

Compared to older Ultherapy machines, Ultherapy Prime has a clearer live ultrasound screen and fires faster. Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred can see your tissue layers on the screen before firing each line, so the energy lands accurately in the SMAS while avoiding facial fat and nerves. The faster pulse speed also makes the session much easier to sit through. It is our go-to option for heavy jowls, a soft jawline, or looseness under the chin.

XERF (1.0mm to 3.5mm full dermis)

Made by Cynosure Lutronic, XERF uses monopolar radiofrequency to warm the full thickness of the dermis rather than focusing on tiny individual points. It pairs two radiofrequency settings (6.78 MHz and 2 MHz) with surface cooling so the top layer of skin stays cool while heat builds underneath. It works well when your skin feels thin or soft and needs its thickness and bounce back.

Sofwave (1.5mm mid-dermis)

Sofwave sends seven parallel ultrasound beams into the mid-dermis at a fixed depth of 1.5mm while a built-in cooling plate (Sofcool) chills the skin surface. Because the energy stops at 1.5mm and never reaches the deeper fat layer, there is zero risk of losing cheek volume. It leaves no marks on the skin, making it ideal for smoothing fine lines, firming crepey neck skin, and lifting the eyebrows when you have no time for recovery.

Your year-end booking countdown

8 to 12 weeks out (October to early November): Ultherapy Prime

Booking in October or early November gives you the full 60 to 90 days needed for the deep SMAS layer to remodel. Any mild tenderness along the jawbone fades within a few days of your visit, early firmness starts showing around week four, and the full lift settles in by late December.

4 to 6 weeks out (mid to late November): XERF

By mid-November, there is less time for deep SMAS lifting to peak before Christmas, which makes XERF a better choice. Because radiofrequency treats the wider dermal layer, skin thickness and tightness respond within about 30 days. Your skin feels denser and sits tighter along the jawline within a month.

2 to 3 weeks out (early December): Sofwave

If you are booking in early December, avoid treatments that could leave you with temporary puffiness. Sofwave fits a two-to-three-week window because its energy stays at 1.5mm and the cooled handpiece protects your epidermis. You can put makeup on right after your appointment, and within two to three weeks, new collagen softens fine lines around the mouth, lifts the outer brow, and smooths crepey cheek texture.

Less than 10 days out: Gentle hydration only

Skip high-heat tightening treatments if your event is less than ten days away. Even zero-downtime devices carry a small chance of temporary redness or mild puffiness. Stick to non-thermal clinical facials, hydrating infusions, or LED light therapy before your party, and save lifting treatments for January.

Time Before Event Main Concern Best Option Target Depth Recovery
8 to 12 weeks Sagging jowls, soft jawline, double chin Ultherapy Prime 1.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.5mm (SMAS) Normal routine right away. Mild redness fades in a few hours; slight jawline tenderness for a few days.
4 to 6 weeks Thinning skin, loss of bounce, enlarged pores XERF 1.0mm to 3.5mm (full dermis) Normal routine right away. Slight warmth fades within an hour or two.
2 to 4 weeks Fine lines, crepey neck skin, heavy brows Sofwave 1.5mm (mid-dermis) Zero downtime. You can wear makeup out of the clinic.
6 to 8 weeks Both deep sagging and surface lines Ultherapy Prime + Sofwave 1.5mm to 4.5mm Normal routine within 24 hours; any mild puffiness is easy to cover with light makeup.

Comfort and aftercare

Older tightening machines earned a reputation for pain because slow pulses let heat build up on nerve endings. Newer engineering has changed how these treatments feel.

With Ultherapy Prime, faster firing speeds mean you feel brief, warm pinpricks along bony areas instead of a lingering ache. During Sofwave, the cooled tip chills your skin continuously while ultrasound warms the dermis below. XERF is the gentlest of the three; it spreads radiofrequency warmth evenly without hot spots and feels like a warm stone massage. We apply numbing cream before every session, and Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred adjust the energy settings as they work so you stay comfortable.

For the first 48 hours after treatment, skip saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, and alcohol, since extra heat can cause temporary puffiness. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily to protect the new collagen your skin is producing.

Why Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred customize every treatment

Many clinics sell fixed packages of 300 or 500 shots applied in the same pattern on every patient. Treating every face with the same grid ignores anatomy. Placing deep ultrasound energy in the wrong spot on someone with lean cheeks can make their face look hollow, while surface tightening alone will not lift heavy jowls.

At ARTÉ by Dr. M, Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred examine how your face moves when you speak and smile, how thick your skin and fat pads are, and where your tissue needs support. They then map out whether your face needs Ultherapy Prime, XERF, Sofwave, or a combination across different zones.

Frequently asked questions

How long do results from Ultherapy Prime and Sofwave last?

Results generally last 12 to 18 months because the treatments build your own collagen. Most patients come in once a year for maintenance.

Can Ultherapy Prime and Sofwave be done in the same appointment?

Yes. Ultherapy Prime works deeper (4.5mm and 3.0mm) while Sofwave treats the mid-dermis (1.5mm), so the energy does not overlap. Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred will let you know during your consultation if combining them suits your face.

Will my skin peel or look red after XERF or Sofwave?

No. Neither device breaks or burns the top layer of skin, so there is no peeling, flaking, or scabbing. Any light pinkness clears up within an hour or two.

What is the latest I should book before year-end events?

Book by late October or early November for Ultherapy Prime, or mid-November for XERF. If your event is two to three weeks away, schedule Sofwave at least 10 to 14 days beforehand.

To map out your treatment schedule before the holidays, book a consultation with Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred at ARTÉ by Dr. M.
