Sofwave in Singapore: The Zero-Downtime Lunchtime Lift for Wrinkles, Eyebrows & Neck Before Year-End Parties

November and December are often peak months for skin rejuvenation, as many people seek to improve their skin’s appearance in preparation for festive celebrations, social gatherings, and year-end events. Clinically proven and FDA-approved, Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment available at ARTÉ by Dr. M that helps improve skin laxity. It is able to deliver controlled ultrasound energy, protecting the skin’s surface during treatment.

A session with Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred takes under an hour, you can put your makeup back on before leaving the clinic, and you can head straight to a meeting or dinner that same day.

How Sofwave works (and why 1.5mm protects facial fat)

Older ultrasound devices focus heat deep into tiny points at 4.5mm. Sofwave works differently: it uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB) technology to keep all of its energy in the mid-dermis at a fixed depth of 1.5mm.

With every pulse, the handpiece sends seven parallel ultrasound beams into the mid-dermis at once, warming the tissue to between 60°C and 70°C. That heat contracts existing collagen fibers right away and prompts fibroblast cells to build fresh Type I and Type III collagen alongside new elastin.

While the mid-dermis warms up underneath, a built-in cooling plate called Sofcool chills the top layer of your skin before, during, and after each pulse. Sensors inside the tip check your skin temperature continuously and pause the machine if the surface ever gets too warm. Because your epidermis stays cool, there is no peeling, crusting, or dark spots afterward.

Keeping the ultrasound energy at 1.5mm solves two common worries for patients especially those with naturally lean faces:

  • No risk of losing cheek fat: The subcutaneous fat pads of the face sit deeper, typically starting around 3.0mm to 4.5mm. Because Sofwave's beams physically stop at 1.5mm, the heat never touches your fat layer. Your cheek fullness and natural facial volume stay untouched.
  • Safe over delicate neck and brow zones: Because the energy stays in the upper dermis and never reaches deep muscle planes, there is no risk of irritating facial motor nerves. Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred can safely treat thin, delicate areas like the neck, under the chin, and right above the brow bone.

Which areas can Sofwave treat?

Sofwave holds US FDA clearances and Singapore HSA registration for four main areas:

Heavy eyebrows and hooded eyelids

As forehead skin loses its snap, the eyebrows drop and make the upper eyelids look heavy or tired. Passing Sofwave across the forehead and temples tightens the dermal tissue holding up the brow, creating a natural 1mm to 2mm lift along the outer arch that opens up the eyes.

Loose skin under the chin

Skin beneath the chin can loosen and blur your side profile even if you do not have a heavy double chin. Sofwave tightens the skin envelope directly under the jawbone to clean up the angle between your chin and neck.

Neck creases and "tech neck"

Neck skin is thin, moves constantly, and has very few oil glands, so it creases easily from hours spent looking down at laptops and phones. Sofwave thickens and firms thin neck skin without putting heat near deeper structures like the thyroid.

Fine lines around the mouth and cheeks

Shallow smile lines around the mouth and crepey texture across the lower cheeks rarely respond to creams alone. Building fresh collagen at 1.5mm plumps out fine creases and tightens enlarged pores.

Sofwave vs. traditional radiofrequency (RF)

Patients often ask Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred how Sofwave compares to radiofrequency treatments like Thermage. Both use heat to build collagen, but the way the energy travels through your skin is different.

Feature Traditional Radiofrequency (RF) Sofwave (SUPERB)
Energy Source Electrical radiofrequency currentElectrical radiofrequency current Seven parallel ultrasound beams
Depth Control Varies depending on skin moisture and impedance Stays fixed at 1.5mm in the mid-dermis
Facial Fat Loss Risk Small risk if bulk heat reaches deep fat pads Zero risk; energy stops above the fat layer
Downtime Light redness or mild puffiness for 12 to 24 hours Zero downtime; skin looks normal right away
Same-Day Makeup Usually best to wait 12 to 24 hours Can be applied before you leave the clinic
Skin Tone Safety Safe for all skin tones Safe for all skin tones (Fitzpatrick types I to VI)

Radiofrequency current follows the path of least electrical resistance, which means changes in skin hydration or fat thickness can shift where heat builds up. Sofwave's ultrasound beams travel in straight, fixed paths to 1.5mm regardless of skin impedance or pigment.

Need a lift without taking time off work?

Book a consultation with Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred at ARTÉ by Dr. M to see how Sofwave fits into a busy year-end schedule.

What happens during your appointment

A full Sofwave visit at ARTÉ by Dr. M takes about 75 minutes from the time you walk in:

First, Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred checks your skin thickness and areas of looseness to plan your exact pulse count (usually 160 to 240 pulses for a full face and neck). Next, your skin is cleansed and prescription numbing cream is applied for 30 to 40 minutes.

Once the numbing cream is wiped off and ultrasound gel is applied, Dr. Michelle or Dr. Alfred places the handpiece against your skin. Each pulse lasts three to five seconds. You feel the cold Sofcool plate first, followed by a brief, warm prickling sensation deep in the skin for the last second or two of the pulse, which stops the moment the pulse ends. The treatment itself takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Afterward, the gel is cleaned off and calming serum and SPF 50 sunscreen are applied. Because there are no needle marks or surface burns, you can put foundation, concealer, or powder on right in the treatment room and head straight back to the office or out to dinner.

When will your skin look its best?

  • Day 1: Your skin looks clean and rested, with a subtle initial tightness from the heat contracting existing collagen fibers and no bruising or swelling.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: New collagen starts softening fine lines around the mouth and eyes, and the outer tail of the brow begins to lift.
  • Weeks 8 to 12: Collagen and elastin remodeling reaches its peak. Your skin feels denser and firmer to the touch, neck creases look softer, and your jawline looks cleaner in photos.
  • 12 months: Results typically hold for about a year. Most patients come in for a single session once a year to keep their skin firm.

Price in Singapore (and why pulse counts matter)

Area Treated Recommended Pulse Count Typical Singapore Price (SGD)
Upper face and eyebrow lift 80 to 120 pulses $1,500 to $2,200
Lower face and under-chin 140 to 180 pulses $2,200 to $3,200
Full face and upper neck 200 to 260 pulses $2,800 to $4,200
Full face, full neck, and chest 280 to 350+ pulses $4,200 to $5,500

Sofwave handpieces use digital keys that charge clinics per pulse fired. When you see a heavily discounted Sofwave promotion in Singapore, check how many pulses are included.

Some clinics cut costs by firing only 80 to 100 pulses across an entire face. Spreading that few pulses over a large area leaves the dermis under-heated and produces weak results. A proper full-face session takes at least 180 to 220 pulses, and a full face plus neck takes 240 pulses or more. Always ask your clinic to confirm the exact pulse count in your treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sofwave hurt?

With prescription numbing cream applied for 30 to 40 minutes beforehand and the Sofcool plate chilling your skin during every shot, most patients rate the brief three-to-five-second warm pulses at a 2 or 3 out of 10.

Can Sofwave cause bruising?

No. Ultrasound energy passes through the skin without breaking blood vessels or damaging the surface, so Sofwave does not leave bruises. It is one of the safest treatments to book close to a wedding, gala, or holiday trip.

Can I combine Sofwave with other treatments?

Yes. Because Sofwave treats the 1.5mm mid-dermis, Dr. Michelle and Dr. Alfred often pair it with Ultherapy Prime (which lifts the deeper 4.5mm SMAS layer) for patients who want both deep jowl lifting and surface line smoothing. It also pairs well with skin boosters for extra hydration.

How many sessions do I need before year-end parties?

One session is enough for most patients. Booking two to four weeks before your main December events gives your skin time to start tightening while keeping your calendar free of recovery days.
